English Paper Piecing Number of Hexagons Calculator

Calculate the number of hexagons required for a quilt. What you need to know is how big you want the quilt to be and what size hexagons you will be using.

The Variables

W = width of quilt

L = length of quilt

d = size of hexagon

The number of columns, rows, hexagons and half hexagons

Always round up to nearest whole number.

# columns = X =

W

1.732

# rows = Y =

2L - d

3d

# hexagons =

L - 2d

(2X-1) + X

3d

# half hexagons =

2L - 4d

3d
