Fusible Appliqué

Tracing the Pattern

The heart is a good practice piece for needle turn appliqué. It has an inner corner, a point and curved edges. Trace or draw a heart on to the paper side of the fusible material.

Preparing the Piece

Preheat a dry iron to the setting per the fusible material you are using. Lay the fabric face down on the ironing board. Lay the fusible material (with the heart drawn on it), paper side up, on top of the fabric. See figure 1.

Figure 1

Glide the iron across the fusible material and fabric for time required for fusible material you are using. After cooling, check to see if fusible material is stuck to fabric. If not, iron a little longer.

After the fabric has cooled, Carefully cut out the heart.

Peel off the fusible material paper backing.

Appliquéing

Place the fabric heart right side up in the desired position of your background fabric and iron as before. (Ironing time may need to be increased for heavier materials or when using several layers of material).
